After a hefty round of cuts on Thursday afternoon, the Washington Capitals trimmed their training camp roster on Friday, releasing defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler and putting three players, including veteran goaltender Dan Ellis, on waivers.
The 57th overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, Siegenthaler signed a three-year entry-level contract in late July. The 18-year-old is expected to return to his overseas club, the Zurich Lions of the Swiss-A League. In his lone preseason game at Montreal on Thursday night, Siegenthaler assisted on winger T.J. Oshie’s goal.
Friday was the first day teams could waive players in training camp, and the Capitals waived Ellis, defenseman Mike Moore and forward Garrett Mitchell, who will all land in Hershey if no one claims them.
