The Washington Capitals placed defenseman Taylor Chorney on waivers Tuesday, a day after acquiring defenseman Michal Kempny from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Chorney, 30, appeared in 24 games this season, with the majority of his playing time coming when defenseman Matt Niskanen missed 14 games with a upper body injury. The Capitals often kept Chorney inactive as the their seventh defenseman.
By waiving Chorney, the Capitals free up an extra roster space and clear $800,000 in salary cap space. For the majority of the season, the Capitals have kept 22 players on their active roster.
