Goaltender Justin Peters became the third member of the Washington Capitals to undergo offseason surgery, joining defenseman Brooks Orpik (wrist) and center Nicklas Backstrom (hip) with a left knee operation performed Monday, which the team called “successful.”
In a brief news release announcing the surgery, the Capitals anticipated Peters would return “to full hockey activities in time for Capitals training camp,” the start date for which has not yet been announced. Their preseason opener is Sept. 21 at home against Carolina, Peters’ former team, less than one week after rookie camp concludes with a four-day, three-game tournament in Florida.
