Washington Capitals director of goaltending Mitch Korn has taken the same position on Barry Trotz’s staff with the New York Islanders.
Korn was Trotz’s goaltending coach for 16 years with the Nashville Predators before he followed the head coach to Washington. Before the 2017-18 season, Korn was promoted to the “director of goaltending” title with the Capitals, and Scott Murray took over as goaltending coach.
Trotz resigned from the Capitals a few weeks after winning the Stanley Cup in June and was hired as head coach of the Islanders. Now Korn will join his new staff.
When the Capitals promoted associate coach Todd Reirden to replace Trotz, Reirden announced that Murray, among other key staff members, will return to the team next year.
