Capitals cut 17 more from training camp

The Washington Capitals released 17 more players from their training camp Thursday afternoon, reducing their roster down to 44. Coach Barry Trotz had aimed to make the cuts by the weekend, but began informing this crop of players after their on-ice sessions, before the team’s third preseason game in Montreal.

Most, if not all, of the 10 forwards, five defensemen and two goaltenders chopped from the roster will either be loaned back to their overseas or juniors clubs, or sent to training camp for the Hershey Bears, which begins Sunday. As far as NHL roster was concerned, there were no surprises.
