On a night in which the Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom-less Capitals lost 5-0 to the Sharks, the first-period tribute to that duo’s former linemate may have been the highlight.
The Capitals honored Joel Ward, who signed with the Sharks as a free agent after four seasons in Washington, with a video on the scoreboard at Verizon Center on Tuesday.

Set to Bob Marley’s “One Love,” the video featured the biggest highlights of Ward’s time with the Capitals. It ended with the message, “Thank you, Big Cheese,” after which Ward acknowledged the standing ovation he received from the crowd.
