Paul Carey wasn’t at the Washington Capitals’ practice on Friday, joining the team on the plane to Newark. He was recalled by virtue of waiver eligibility rules and injuries, otherwise a career American Hockey League player. But wearing a Washington uniform for just the third time in his career — and wearing Alexander Semin’s old number — Carey outstretched his stick and tipped a puck in.
It was Carey’s first NHL goal, and it came at a good time for the Capitals, tying Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Devils in the third period and sending it to overtime.
