Brooks Orpik to play; Dmitry Orlov in over Taylor Chorney

Antsy to play a meaningful game after nearly a week-long break from the last exhibition, the Washington Capitals have set their first lineup of the season.

After some uncertainty, defenseman Brooks Orpik will play, Coach Barry Trotz said. Orpik, who had wrist surgery in June and was an injured non-roster player, didn’t crack the lineup for any exhibition games, and he said on Friday that he wasn’t sure if he would play against the New Jersey Devils. Orpik will likely skate beside John Carlson as the top pair.

Dmitry Orlov got the nod as the sixth defenseman, meaning Taylor Chorney will be the extra.
