The Capitals took another step toward a healthy opening night roster as defenseman Brooks Orpik, who had offseason wrist surgery, skated with the team in practice on Friday morning. Washington Coach Barry Trotz had hoped Orpik could play in at least one preseason game, but he’s not in the lineup for tonight’s game against Boston and the preseason finale is on Sunday.
Orpik and Trotz said there’s no timetable for when Orpik might see game action, but Orpik didn’t rule out playing on Sunday and Trotz was hopeful Orpik would be ready by the Oct. 10 opener.
“He’s making sure he’s going to be ready and not have any setbacks or do anything, so he can hopefully be opening night,” Trotz said.
