Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby was named the NHL’s “Second Star of the Month” on Tuesday, a day after he earned the weekly honor from the league.
Holtby, who is in the midst of a career-long seven-game winning streak, went 9-2 for the Capitals in November. He had one shutout, a 1-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 23, and had a 1.99 goals-against average and .927 save percentage. He allowed two or fewer goals in eight of those 11 games.
The honor is the first for Holtby. The last Capitals player to be honored by the league for his monthly performance is left wing Alex Ovechkin, who was recognized as the “Third Star of the Month” in February and the “First Star of the Month” in January.
