Braden Holtby says he drinks 15-17 liters of liquid on game days

COLUMBUS — In the second period of Sunday’s game, Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby started to have a migraine that impaired his peripheral vision. He’d experienced dehydration earlier in his career, especially in warmer venues, but this was different. He wasn’t losing that much fluid, and his muscles weren’t cramping, but with his vision fuzzy on a New York Rangers goal late in the period, Holtby took himself out of the game.

“We’re just guessing that it was dehydration the last game,” Holtby said on Tuesday. “We don’t really know. It could’ve just been tweaking your neck and causing a migraine somehow or a little bump in the head or whatever.
