He had met reporters almost every day since his debut season coaching the Washington Capitals began – sometimes twice, occasionally three times – and here now was his chance to summarize everything before summer. He spoke for 20 minutes on Friday. He answered 10 questions. Once all the emotions of losing Game 7 to the New York Rangers had died down, everything except the sadness of saying goodbye, Trotz’s words would formally close the door on 2014-15.
