Center Nicklas Backstrom, goaltender Braden Holtby and coach Barry Trotz have been selected to participate in the 2016 NHL All-Star game in Nashville.
The three joins Alex Ovechkin, who made the team via fan balloting. Ovechkin will captain the Metro Division team and Trotz will coach it.
It’s the first time in more than 30 years that four players will represent Washington. In 1984-85, Bob Carpenter, Mike Gartner, Rod Langway and Scott Stevens were chosen.
Backstrom is among one of the best players in the league never to make the all-star team, a fact his coach and teammates have bemoaned for years.
