(Caps Outsider)
With a hat-trick against Chicago, Alex Ovechkin became only the third player to score 800 career goals in the NHL. He’s now only two goals away from passing Gordie Howe, and 95 away from passing the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. With plenty of time left in this season, and three more years on his NHL contract, Ovi has plenty of time to get the all-time record.
Earlier in the game, he also set the record for most game-opening goals in NHL history.
The score gave the Caps a 5-2 lead and the team left the bench to congratulate him.
