With a very weird goal, Alex Ovechkin scored his 35th of the season and 693rd of his career, one better than longtime Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman for 9th place on the all-time goals list.
He’s now one goal behind tying Mark Messier for 8th place.
After a terrible turnover by Predators goalie Juuse Saros, Ovechkin snapped a shot into an empty net to cut Nashville’s lead to 3-2 in the first period.
