Alex Ovechkin wasted no time making history. Just one day after scoring the 498th and 499th goals of his illustrious career — that last one an overtime game-winner against the New York Rangers — the Washington Capitals superstar got No. 5oo Sunday.
The memorable moment came against the Ottawa Senators, and before a delirious home crowd at Verizon Center. Ovechkin got his goal in classic fashion, sending a wrister past goalie Andrew Hammond from his favorite spot at the left circle.
The tally led to sweet moments for Ovechkin’s mother and father, who were in attendance, along with Capitals owner Ted Leonsis.
