Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said left wing Alex Ovechkin is a game-time decision for the game against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night after he missed the team’s morning skate for what he called “personal reasons.”
Ovechkin’s absence occurred on the morning of the Capitals’ second regular-season game. In the team’s season opener against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, a 5-3 victory, Ovechkin tallied two critical points in the final period.
With the game tied 2-2, Ovechkin slipped past Devils defender John Moore with a toe-drag deke and tucked a wrister in the top-right corner to beat Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid.
