Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was scratched for Tuesday’s game after missing morning skate because he overslept after setting his alarm for 8:30 p.m. instead of 8:30 a.m. We’ve all been there, even if our punishment for oversleeping hasn’t been so public.
Ovechkin’s mistake is probably the biggest alarm clock-related snafu in D.C. sports since 2008, when Redskins rookie tight end Fred Davis overslept and missed the final day of minicamp. Before that, Wizards guard Rod Strickland carried the torch for D.C. athletes oversleeping, though it was unclear if his sleep-deprivation was really to blame.
