Alex Ovechkin’s second period power play goal against Boston on Thursday gave him 266 for his career, one better than Brett Hull and only eight behind Dave Andreychuk, who has the all-time lead with 274.
Meanwhile, Wayne Gretzky, the king of NHL goals (for now), assists and points, is in 17th place on the all-time power play goal list with 204, though his 890 points is far and away the best ever.
As for Andreychuk, he’ll always be remembered as being a great player, but his current power play record was boosted in part by the longevity of his career – 1,639 games – hundreds more than most of the guys in the top ten, including 451 more than Ovi.
