After wrenching OT loss, Capitals’ start ‘wasn’t good enough’

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — It was the final stretch along the farewell tour for this old barn, beloved and rundown after 43 seasons, closing its doors to professional hockey with the Islanders moving to Brooklyn next season. Even the slightest flicker of positivity Sunday afternoon whipped the Nassau Coliseum crowd into a roar. They had stuffed the parking lots for breakfast and beer, and arrived to their seats to find orange towels reading, “Let’s Make History. One More Time.” They rattled the walls with noise, yelled during the national anthem and chanted, “Can you hear us?” at forward Alex Ovechkin, a nod to the captain’s comments that Verizon Center was louder.
