Alex Ovechkin is now the Washington Capitals franchise record holder for power-play goals after he scored the game-tying goal in the 18:48 mark of the second period against Tampa Bay Lightning. The power-play was given to the Capitals after Richard Panik got a 5-minute major for boarding Karl Alzner. The previous franchise record holder was Peter Bondra who had 137 power-play goals.
The goal also allowed Alex Ovechkin to complete his hat trick of the night since only seven seconds into the same power-play, he scored his 24th goal of the year. Tonight will mark Alex Ovechkin's 13th career hat trick. The assists for the goal were given to Mike Green and Nicklas Backstrom.

Ovechkin has 48 goals in the last 52 games and is currently leading the league with 25 goals and 11 power-play goals.
