The Washington Capitals completely dominated the Pittsburgh Penguins in all facets of the game en route to a 3-0 victory on Saturday. For former Pen Matt Niskanen, Saturday's win was a showcase of the evolution of this current Caps squad.
“I think just reinforcing that’s what our game should look like, that’s how we need to play if we’re going to have success,” the defenseman said, via Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post. “We really were just strong in the right areas, just hard on the walls, clogged thing sup in the areas we needed to, guys got to the net and got rewarded for it, that’s nice to see. Special teams were pretty good. We didn’t get a power play goal. Could have gone better, but PK was really good. We’re going to need scrappy wins like that. That’s going to be the kind of team we’re going to be. We have skilled players, but we need to play that way to get really consistent. Hopefully a lot more games look like that.”

Forward Eric Fehr couldn't help but agree.
“We want to outwork teams,” said Fehr, who scored twice crashing the net for rebounds. “We have skill to out-skill teams, but if we have the same work ethic as other teams with the skill we have we’re going to win a lot of games. You can see our approach during games. We’re a lot more physical than we are in the past and we’re really skating hard, taking time away from other teams. Our puck possession is great and we’re working hard. The combination of that is going to get us a lot of wins.”
