Alex Ovechkin has scored his 400th career goal during the 19:35 mark of the third period to secure the Washington Capitals' win against the Carolina Hurricanes with an empty-net goal. Ovechkin is continuing to lead the league in goals as he scored his 29th goal of the season tonight.
The Washington Capitals had a slow start to the game as they were giving Carolina the ability to shoot from every angle. Jordan Stall scored the first goal of the game at the 17:12 mark in the first period to give the Hurricanes a lead.
However, the Capitals had a comeback in the second period where they scored a hat trick of power play goals. Marcus Johansson scored early - only 41 seconds in the period. John Carlson had a powerful snapshot to give the Capitals the lead. Carolina's Ricky Nash slid the puck pass Grubauer to tie the game, but within four minutes, Troy Brouwer gives the Capitals the lead once again with a tip-in on a power-play.
Alex Ovechkin sealed the win (4-2) with the empty-net goal with only 25 seconds left in the game.
Teammate Michael Latta seems to be extremely happy for his Captain:
