To the Editor,
As an alumnus of Wake Forest, and current director of the University Counseling Center (UCC), I found myself heartened by the opportunity to discuss the important topic of suicide with the Old Gold & Black.
Professionally, two of my passions are suicide prevention and reducing barriers towards accessing mental health support.
That the resulting article “Suicidal Thoughts Increase On Campus” (September 10, 2015) went to print during National Suicide Prevention Week made the discussion even more timely and important.
From my point of view, the more we talk openly about the issues that affect our health and wellbeing, the more we can support one another (and ask for help ourselves) when needed.
