This past week, Pope Francis visited the U.S. for the first time. Everywhere he went, he received an overwhelmingly positive reception.
In a recent Washington Post-ABC News Poll, Americans’ opinion of the pope were just as positive as his reception.
86 percent of Roman Catholics have a positive view of the pope, and 81 percent of Catholics have a favorable opinion of the church. It’s striking that even among those of a different religion, Americans widely admire Pope Francis.
According to the poll, 70 percent of Americans approve of the pope while only 55 percent approve of the church itself.
