As the sun set on Tuesday evening, the dean of students’ home was still glowing with an ambience of camaraderie as Jewish and Muslim students celebrated the holidays of Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha together for the first time in Wake Forest history.
Yom Kippur is the Jewish Day of Atonement. During this holiday, it is a tradition for Jews to fast and pray for the forgiveness of sins as well as to be inscribed in the book of life for the coming year.
Eid al-Adha, on the other hand, is a celebratory holiday. It commemorates Abraham almost sacrificing his son, whom God spares and replaces with a lamb at the last moment.
