For years, the Republican Party has attempted to gain Latino voters’ support. However, it will not be the party’s ideology that turns off Latino voters in the 2016 elections; it could be one of their own candidates: Donald Trump.
Many admire the outspoken businessman for his frank honesty in comparison to the carefully drafted, vague statements of other 2016 candidates. But, in a recent speech, Trump’s allegations about Mexican immigrants have alienated Trump — and the GOP — from Latino voters in the upcoming 2016 elections. Trump’s statement labeling Mexicans as “killers” and “rapists” threaten to undermine Republican efforts to incorporate minorities into the fold.
