The 1990s was a distinctive decade for cinema. Innovations in technology had led to advancements in animation and computer-generated imagery, the latter a feat that was implemented in significant nineties films such as Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park and James Cameron’s Titanic. Also, multiple major film distributors had formed subsidiary studios that specialized in the distribution of independent films; therefore, the popularity of independent films began to grow within the decade. Amongst these blockbusters, low-budget dramas, and acclaimed Disney animated films of the nineties though was a unique action thriller from French director, Luc Besson.
In 1994, Columbia Pictures released Léon: The Professional.
