I don’t normally start out my writings like this, but I have a story to share about one freshman’s experience at the end of last year at Wake Forest. This student wrote an article about his struggles as a gay man in a community that often overlooks its own homophobic tendencies. And the university recognized him for it!
Prose carries innumerous weight. Whether it’s slurs, like fag or gay or fairy, or whether it’s simply 700 words on a news page crying out for equal treatment of the LGBTQ community, the written word can move people to action.
