Each year, universities across the country are required to provide an annual report of crimes occurring on campus. Wake Forest University released their 2014 Annual Crime and Fire Report on Sept. 22, 2015.
2014 saw increases in two areas. First, the number of reported sexual assaults, divided up in the categories “rape” and “fondling,” increased from two reported in 2013 to 10 reported in 2014. Second, the number of reported motor vehicle thefts increased from four in 2013 to 17 in 2014.
The Jeanne Clery Act, which is the law requiring college to make statistics such as these public, was passed in 1990 to help inform students about the safety of their campuses and hold enforcement officials accountable for introducing increased safety measures.
