The movie Amy is nothing if not a heartbreaking, tear-jerking experience. It artfully juxtaposes home videos of Amy Winehouse, footage from various interviews and live performances and pictures (most taken sneakily by the paparazzi) with hauntingly beautiful clips of her most soulful songs. The end result is a visual and auditory experience that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster through the most celebrated and controversial aspects of Winehouse’s short life.
I remember when I first read about Winehouse in the paper. There was a picture of her, looking gaunt and bored, with her signature exaggerated cat-eye makeup and her messy beehive.
