Sen. Richard Burr, a graduate of the class of 1978, has spent the last 20 years representing North Carolina in Congress, first representing the fifth district in the House of Representatives and now as the state’s senior senator.
Since arriving in Washington in 1995, he has been at the heart of some of the most important political debates in recent history and, as of January, chairs the powerful Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
As the most prominent politician to have received a diploma on Hearn Plaza, one might imagine that Burr’s time at Wake Forest helped build his interest in public policy and service.
