Protein has the power to keep you feeling fuller for longer and can help your muscles build back bigger and stronger after a workout. While a protein-packed bar is a great way to score a quick dose of the macronutrient in theory, there’s one problem: Most just don’t taste very good. To find the best protein bars that are both functional and actually pleasant to eat, myself and a group of taste testers sampled 24 types from popular brands and tried 120 different flavors altogether. Unsurprisingly, not even a third tasted good enough for us to recommend. But we did find a few gems in our testing, like Xact Protein Wafer Bars, which offer 15 grams of protein in a light, crispy package; Kind Protein Max Bars, a low-sugar option to help you meet your fitness goals; and Probar Meal Bars, a convenient and nutrient-dense meal-replacement solution when you’re on the go.
