On Sunday Virginia Tech’s women’s soccer hosted the Tennessee Volunteers at Thompson Field in Blacksburg.
The first half of regulation finished scoreless. Mid-way through the second half Tennessee’s Mackenzie Gouner scored, putting the Vols up 1-0. The situation looked precarious for the Hokies until a late goal from freshmen Kristina Diana tied the game, eventually sending the teams into extra periods. VPI outshot the Volunteers 9-0 in overtime, but ultimately failed to capitalize. Virginia Tech demonstrated another solid offensive effort, out-shooting Tennessee 23-11. Ashley Meier led the team with eight shots followed by Murielle Tiernan who had five.
