After a shocking and disappointing season-opening loss at Vanderbilt, the Virginia Tech Hokies returned home to the friendly confines of Lane Stadium. The opponent: the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Much like last week, the Hokies again got off to a slow start, but this time, Tech pulled away with a solid second half to defeat Marshall 31-14 and move to 1-1 on the season.
For about 15 minutes on Saturday afternoon, a sold-out Lane Stadium was unusually quiet for a season opener. The two teams were scoreless until senior wide receiver Jaylin Lane returned a punt for a touchdown to end the first quarter.
