The Virginia Tech Hokies received a surprise on Saturday. Miami linebacker/defensive back Kaleb Spencer entered the NCAA transfer portal less than one month ago and, on Saturday, announced on X that he was committing to the Hokies.
The Hokies had one full scholarship available, and it went to Spencer, a Virginia native. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Spencer appeared in 11 games for the Hurricanes as a true freshman last season, and he was credited with one tackle.
Spencer is from Gloucester, Virginia, and played at Life Christian Academy in Colonial Heights. He was a high three-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class.
