When Khalil Herbert entered the transfer portal one year ago and departed Kansas for Virginia Tech, it didn’t make the headlines. In four years at Kansas, Herbert rushed for just over 1,700 with 14 rushing touchdowns.
Those were certainly solid numbers but nothing that would make Virginia Tech fans think they had found the next Ryan Williams, David Wilson, or Kevin Jones.
However, from his first carry in his Virginia Tech debut against N.C. State back on Sept. 26, the Hokies knew they had something special.
Sure, Virginia Tech’s offensive line was outstanding in 2020. But Herbert was just as good.
