Virginia Tech football: Hokies lead Syracuse 14-3

Virginia Tech fans were in for a surprise on Saturday when they learned quarterback Kyron Drones would not play. Drones warmed up but could not go, paving the way for senior Collin Schlee to start at quarterback. Even worse for the Hokies, running back Bhayshul Tuten was a game-time decision.

No problem, said Schlee. The UCLA transfer and Maryland native completed 10 of 15 passes for 144 yards in the first half and also rushed for a touchdown. In total, the Hokies outgained the Orange 261-152 and lead 14-3 at halftime.

Tuten did not play in the first half, and Tech ran for 117 first-half yards.
