The Virginia Tech Hokies improved to 5-3 (3-1) on Saturday with a 21-6 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Blacksburg. It’s VT’s third consecutive win after the heartbreaking loss at Miami last month.
It wasn’t the prettiest win for the Hokies, who trailed 3-0 after the first quarter. Virginia Tech managed just 12 yards on eight plays on its first two possessions. Things picked up in the second quarter when quarterback Kyron Drones led a quick, efficient drive by finding tight end Benji Gosnell for a 20-yard touchdown to give the Hokies a 7-3 lead.
After a Yellow Jackets’ field goal to make it 7-6, Drones led another impressive Virginia Tech drive in the second quarter, where he caught a six-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Jaylin Lane.
