Two weeks ago, the sky fell when Virginia Tech left tackle Xavier Chaplin and guard/center Braelin Moore entered the NCAA transfer portal. Not long after, offensive line coach Ron Crook was one of three coaches fired. Losing Moore, especially Chaplin, was a tough blow. It meant the Hokies would have to rebuild the entire offensive line next season.
Losing Crook was not a tough blow. It was the right move. He wasn’t doing a good job as a coach or recruiter. So, on Monday, the Hokies fired former West Virginia offensive line coach Matt Moore. Moore was considered a slam-dunk hire and is one of the nation’s better offensive line coaches.
