The Virginia Tech Hokies play the Old Dominion Monarchs on Saturday for just the second time in school history. This is Tech’s first trip to Norfolk’s Foreman Field. The two in-state schools met last year for the first time with the Hokies winning 38-0.
If you think it’s odd the two schools have met only twice, that’s because ODU’s football program was inactive from 1942-2009. After being founded in 1930, the program shut down after the 1941 season due to poor attendance, losing and accreditation issues.
The Monarchs finally got their program active again in 2009 with Bobby Wilder as the head coach.
