For the fourth consecutive season and the 23rd time in the past 25 meetings, the Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Virginia Cavaliers to retain the Commonwealth Cup. Behind redshirt freshman quarterback William “Pop” Watson, the Hokies scored on their first possession and never looked back in a 37-17 win over the Cavaliers.

Kyron Drones struggled this season. Last season, Drones took over for Grant Wells and showed promise. He improved throughout the year, leading the Hokies to spend the offseason building around Drones by retaining all of his top weapons.
