Today is June 18, 2019, which means we are officially 74 days away from the Virginia Tech Hokies opening the college football season at Boston College. Yesterday, we profiled one of the most unheralded players in Virginia Tech history, No. 75, George Preas.
Today, for No. 74, we look back at former offensive tackle, Derek Smith.
Smith arrived in Blacksburg in 1994 from Jefferson High in Kearneysville, W.V., as a massive 6’6”, 270-pound offensive line prospect. After redshirting his first season, Smith didn’t play a lot during his redshirt season of 1995 due to the experience the Hokies possessed up front.
