Virginia Tech’s rise to national prominence began in 1993. The Hokies went 9-3 and blew out the Indiana Hoosiers in the Independence Bowl, starting a streak of 27 consecutive bowl game appearances.
The 1995 Virginia Tech Hokies were special. They went 10-2, defeated No. 9 Texas in the Sugar Bowl, and ended the year with a top-10 ranking. The Hokies didn’t just beat a Texas team loaded with future NFL players but blew them out.
However, the 1999 Virginia Tech Hokies are widely believed to be the best team in school history. Everyone knows about Michael Vick, but that Tech team was loaded with stars.
