The NSCAA No. 9 Virginia Tech women’s soccer squad extended their season opening winning streak to three in a row when they defeated the James Madison Dukes Friday night at Thompson Field in Blacksburg. With the win Virginia Tech also extended another streak, marking four in a row against the Dukes, although JMU still leads the all-time series against VPI, 12-5-1.
The Hokies demonstrated a robust offensive assault on the Dukes, outshooting JMU 20-7. VT’s goalkeeper, Kaylyn Smith collected three saves. Preseason All-ACC selection Ashley Meier scored shortly after the game started off a pass from ESPNW’s National Player of the Week, Murielle Tiernan, allowing the Hokies to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
