If you look at the box score from Saturday’s men’s basketball rematch between the Virginia Tech Hokies and Virginia Cavaliers in Blacksburg, it looked like a toss-up. Unfortunately for the Hokies, they could not finish off a late surge, and the Cavaliers held on for a 73-70 win to split the season series.
Virginia led throughout the game, shooting over 50% from the field for much of the contest. Junior guard Isaac McKneely kept the Hoos ahead, and every time it appeared the Hokies were closing the gap, McKneely drained a clutch 3-pointer. When McKneely hit another trey at the 7:53 mark in the second half, it gave Virginia a 62-53 lead.
