The Virginia Tech Hokies (3-1) lost their first game of the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season on Friday, falling 86-64 to the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Hall of Fame Series in Baltimore.
It was actually a back-and-forth first half, with Penn State taking a 37-29 lead into intermission despite 12 first-half turnovers.
The second half was a different story, though — except for the turnovers. The Nittany Lions were red hot from the floor, but Virginia Tech gave them too many opportunities, turning the ball over 12 more times in the final 20 minutes. Overall, the Hokies committed 24 turnovers, a function of having two young and inexperienced point guards.
