Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Mike Young will return in 2025-26. In most situations, this wouldn’t be breaking news, but we live in different times. Since October, three ACC teams have lost prominent coaches (Tony Bennett, Jim Larranaga, and Leonard Hamilton) to retirement.
Why? Frustration with the current landscape of college sports. Bennett outlined his issues with the current structure. It has nothing to do with players being compensated; it’s the lawlessness, which has also run off legendary coaches Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, and Jim Boeheim, too.
Anyway, back to Young. You could argue that no coach in the Power Four conferences received fewer resources over the past year than Young and Virginia Tech.
