For about 20 minutes on Saturday afternoon, it looked like the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team would end a five-game losing streak and defeat the Pittsburgh Panthers to win their first ACC game of the season.
The Hokies led 36-28 at halftime against No. 18 Pitt on Saturday at Cassell Coliseum but, like in some of their previous games, ran out of gas in the second half before falling 64-59. It’s Virginia Tech’s sixth consecutive loss after starting the year 3-0.
In the first 20 minutes, the Hokies shot 52% from the field, including six of 15 from beyond the arc, and outscored Pittsburgh, 16-12, in the paint.
