It wasn’t easy, but the Virginia Tech Hokies improved to 3-0 on Monday night, defeating the Winthrop Eagles, 58-52, in Blacksburg.
There was some concern at Cassell Coliseum early, as Tech led by only two points at halftime. The Hokies' poor shooting in the first half contributed to their struggles, as they shot just 25% from the floor.
Things improved in the second as VT shot 44% from the floor but, most importantly, connected on six of 13 3-point attempts, allowing them to pull away from a feisty Winthrop squad.
A pair of transfers once again led the way for Virginia Tech.
